Gary Spearin

Spearin’s artwork is an experience for eye, mind and body. Paintings encapsulate the conceptual, the political, the body, and the psychological through a visually demanding and expressive painting rigour. Photographic artwork investigates everyday life experiences with strategy based documentation, or constructs combined photo imagery/concepts.

Photographic artwork investigates everyday life experiences with strategy based documentation, or constructs combined photo imagery/concepts. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Gary Spearin studied art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, BFA, 1981, and University of Guelph, MFA, 1997.

    Recipient of numerous awards including Canada Council grants, Ontario Arts Council grants, and public commissions. Spearin has exhibited, both in solo, group, and residencies’ exhibititions, Art Fairs, in Canada, United States, and Europe. Spearin’s paintings and installations are included in public and private collections, including The Canada Council Art Bank, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Museum London, Ke-lowna Art Gallery, Woodstock Art Gallery, Robert McLaughlin Gallery and University of Lethbridge.

    Spearin has been a Professor at Fanshawe College, London, Ontario, since 2003, and has previously taught at NSCAD University, University of Lethbridge, Western University, and Dundas Valley School of Art
