Words in the bottom left of the painting include an extract from Tom’s best selling book “Beautiful Scars”, telling the story of Janie eloping as a young girl to Brooklyn where she stayed in the Mohawk neighbourhood of Little Kahawake in Flatbush. There is also a section about the Mohawks coming up the Hudson to settle on the South Shore outside Montreal.

This rare, iconic piece, from the private collection of Tom Wilson, was included in the Art Gallery of Burlington’s 2019 exhibition: Beautiful Scars: Mohawk Warriors, Hunters and Chiefs - The at of Tom Wilson.

The painting is currently on display at Beckett Fine Art.
