John Coburn

Coburn, born in Hamilton and raised in Westdale,  is a Canadian artist best known for his pen & ink line drawings & bold oil on canvas paintings. John’s work has been represented by Beckett throughout his career.

A resident of Toronto, John can often be spotted working on location in big cities around the world capturing ordinary life, interesting people and street scapes. He has had exhibitions in London, New York, Toronto, Hamilton & Tokyo.

Coburn is passionate about New York City. In the days following 9/11, John was on the ground in New York drawing what unfolded around him and titled the series “Healing Hearts”. Twenty-seven of these drawings are now part of the permanent collection of The September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York.

John exhibited his 9/11 Healing Hearts drawings at Sciame Construction on Wall Street on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 and at The Canadian Consulate General, NYC, on the 15th Anniversary of 9/11 . For the 20th anniversary this year, his personal collection of remaining 9/11 drawings is being shown to the public for the first time at Beckett Fine Art.

NYC’s September 11 Museum has loaned some of Coburn’s drawings for exhibits at Gracie Mansion, the home of the mayor of New York City, and Silvermine Arts Centre in New Canaan, Connecticut for their “Voices of 9/11” exhibit.

Coburn’s 9/11 Healing Hearts collection is not for sale and the remaining pieces included in the Beckett 9/11 Exhibit will soon be donated to a Canadian public gallery.
