Jayne Eastwood
Before her career as a beloved Canadian actress and comedian, Jayne' was a painter - a talent and passion she brings to Beckett Fine Art.
Jayne the artist
Jayne has painted much of her adult life in between productions. She loves to draw and paints mainly in oils. Jayne has an eye for capturing the true spirit when painting portraits of herself or the sitter/model/friend.
She also enjoys a road trip into the local countryside and will often stop along the way when she's inspired by the landscape she's passing by. She'll make studies in her sketch book and take photographs for reference material and work them up into oil paintings in her studio.
Jayne works in a painterly, loose and relaxed style not getting wrapped up in the details but capturing the essence and atmosphere she recalls during her many field study stops. Her palette, flare and sense of colour is confident and refreshing. We are excited and honoured to be working with Jayne Eastwood and featuring her paintings at Beckett Fine Art, Hamilton
Jayne the actress and comedian
Jayne ventured into acting when a commercial artist friend invited her to play a role in a local play, Suddenly, Last Summer. A teacher, who was in the audience and revealed to be an acting agent, realized her potential.
Her career began doing commercials for Sani Flush, Scope, Facelle Royale, Toyota, Wintario and the Molson gang with her friends Gilda Radner and Andrea Martin. More recently she has appeared in commercials for Home Equity Bank, notably telling prospective buyers to “Get off her lawn!”.
Famously, she was one of the original cast members of the Toronto branch of The Second City comedy troupe and was a semiregular on SCTV. She was in the original Toronto production of Godspell that launched the careers of many comedy legends.
Her decades-long film and television credits as an actress include The Santa Clause, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Hairspray, The King of Kensington and so many more.
Born and raised in Hoggs Hollow, Toronto, Jayne now calls Hamilton home.
Jayne and her female comedian troupe recently had many sold out audiences rolling in the aisles at Theatre Aquarius performing the brilliant Women Fully Clothed.
